Sun-Kissed

He had never looked up there
to appreciate that bright ball of warmth
He had never said a thanks in prayer
to the sun that kept away a storm
He had never appreciated the light it brought
for he had never known what he would be, if it were not
He had never focused on the burn of it's love
and thus, never truly knew the sun above.

He had never really seen the sun,
Until he saw it in someone.

She stood high, and his life orbited around her
She was a source of warmth,
one that seemed to him, familiar.
He daily said a thanks in prayer,
For this star so beautiful, so rare.
He appreciated constantly the illumination she brought
without her, a life, he had not.
Her kisses ignited a flame within
His sun, she was all beauty and blazing skin
He was burned by his own desire, his need for love.
When his sun rose for him, he looked above.

He had never really seen the sun,
Until he saw it in someone.
